Fourteen U.S. Space Force guardians have graduated from the inaugural Regional Space Advisor course, a new program designed to build diplomatic and regional expertise within the service’s officer and enlisted ranks. The certification program was developed in partnership with the State Department to prepare guardians for assignments in combatant commands and embassies worldwide.

The Regional Space Advisor course provides guardians with training in regional geopolitics, international relations, and space cooperation frameworks. Graduates will serve as space expertise advisers to combatant commanders and U.S. ambassadors, helping integrate space capabilities into theater security cooperation activities.

The program reflects the Space Force’s recognition that space operations increasingly require diplomatic engagement with allies and partners. As NATO and other alliances integrate space into their military structures, the demand for guardians who understand both space operations and regional political dynamics has grown.

The inaugural class included guardians with backgrounds in space operations, intelligence, and engineering. The course curriculum covered Asia-Pacific, European, and Middle Eastern security dynamics, with sessions led by State Department regional experts and military attaches.

Graduates will be assigned to positions at U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, U.S. European Command, U.S. Central Command, and selected embassies. Their role will include advising on space cooperation agreements, facilitating allied integration into U.S. space architectures, and supporting space-related security assistance programs.

The Regional Space Advisor program is part of a broader effort by the Space Force to develop a more diplomatically capable force. The service has emphasized that space superiority requires not just technical and operational excellence but also the ability to build and sustain coalition relationships.

The program’s creation acknowledges that space operations in the current strategic environment require guardians who can operate effectively at the intersection of military capability and international cooperation.
