An unnamed international government has signed on for multiyear, seven-figure access to BlackSky’s orbital monitoring fleet, with assured and on-demand tasking included in the deal announced Aug. 11.

The customer ran a pilot with BlackSky before committing to low-latency access to imagery from the company’s Gen-2 and Gen-3 constellations, paired with AI-enabled analytics and assured global observations.

Gen-2, launched starting in 2021, is built for dawn-to-dusk monitoring. The Gen-3 satellites that began reaching orbit in 2025 offer sharper resolution, which BlackSky says supports automated spotting and classification of a wide library of vehicles, aircraft, vessels and other objects of military interest. Spectra, the firm’s tasking and analytics platform, is where customers view the feeds for sustained monitoring of locations.

Chief executive Brian O’Toole framed the win as a significant jump in value from the pilot program, and pointed to rising international revenue and strong Gen-3 performance during the company’s Aug. 6 earnings report.
