Shifting focus to ground operations, the Army recently conducted what service officials describe as its largest-ever electronic warfare exercise, bringing together infantry units and Green Berets just south of Fort Carson, Colorado. The event was designed to stress-test tactical networks under contested electromagnetic spectrum conditions, a growing priority as peer adversaries field sophisticated jamming and spoofing capabilities.

Mark Pomerleau, reporting on the exercise, noted that participating forces operated under strict emissions control protocols while coordinating fires and logistics through software-defined radios and mesh networking systems. The exercise highlighted persistent challenges in maintaining secure, low-latency communications when units are forced to operate in spectrum-denied environments, especially during joint operations between conventional and special operations forces.
