The U.S. Naval Research Laboratory has awarded Parsons Corporation a $245 million contract for satellite ground systems operations and sustainment. The contract covers work on NRL’s spacecraft command and control infrastructure, supporting a range of naval and defense satellite missions.

Under the five-year indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract, Parsons will provide engineering, integration, testing, and sustainment services for NRL’s satellite ground systems. The work includes maintaining and modernizing the ground infrastructure that enables command and control of NRL-developed spacecraft.

Parsons, a Virginia-based defense technology company, has a long history of supporting space and missile defense programs for the Defense Department. The company’s space portfolio includes ground systems, launch range modernization, and satellite operations support.

The NRL has been a cornerstone of U.S. space research and development since the dawn of the space age. The laboratory develops and operates a diverse portfolio of spacecraft covering communications, navigation, space weather sensing, and experimental payloads.

This contract award reflects the growing importance of ground segment modernization as the military satellite architecture evolves. As the Space Force and other defense components field proliferated constellations with hundreds of satellites, the ground infrastructure must keep pace with increased data volumes and more complex tasking requirements.

The ground systems market has seen increased investment as defense agencies recognize that spacecraft are only as capable as the ground networks that support them. Parsons’ work for NRL will contribute to maintaining the reliability and security of satellite command and control pathways.

This award adds to a series of ground system contracts the Pentagon has issued in recent months as part of a broader effort to modernize space operations infrastructure.
