Robinhood’s new venture fund holds a thin early space portfolio

RVII brings retail investors a thin early slice of space exposure built around an Earth observation AI startup.

Robinhood's new venture fund holds a thin early space portfolio

Robinhood Ventures Fund II began trading on the NYSE on Aug 13 at $25 a share, packaging roughly 79 early-stage startups into a business development company (BDC) that retail investors can buy and sell like a stock. Managed by Robinhood Ventures, the fund skips the accredited-investor test that normally gates private venture access, opening early-stage portfolios to any brokerage account. Nearly every holding was funded through a $250K SAFE, and the book leans heavily on Y Combinator alumni, a strategy that favors young software companies over capital-heavy hardware. Its space exposure sits at the early edge of that book: one clear space bet plus a couple of fringe-adjacent names, rather than a dedicated space thesis.

Watch the RVII roadshow.

The fund’s most direct space holding is AxionOrbital Space, a Y Combinator-backed startup building AI foundation models for round-the-clock Earth observation. The company aims to turn raw satellite imagery into a continuous intelligence feed, a capability with obvious appeal for defense and commercial buyers, and it entered the portfolio through a $250K SAFE. Two other holdings sit close to the sector without being pure space plays. Ornadyne is developing robotic birds for surveillance, a niche the startup pitches to security and monitoring customers. The General Aviation Company is building a new air traffic control system that connects aircraft to the internet, an aviation play with space-adjacent flavor but no orbital component.

A thin, early slice

Space-adjacent names account for a small fraction of the fund’s 79 companies, and the exposure that exists is concentrated in data and AI for Earth observation rather than launch vehicles, satellite hardware, or orbital infrastructure. Technology companies make up roughly 64% of the portfolio, per the fund’s own sector snapshot, with industrials and financial services trailing. For retail investors, RVII offers a liquid way to hold early-stage bets on the space-data theme alongside a broader startup portfolio, but the space angle here is a handful of companies, not a strategy. Its space story will depend on how the Earth observation and surveillance startups mature, and on whether a fund built on $250K checks turns any of them into a marquee holding.
