Space Force enlists AI to keep megaprograms on schedule

The Space Force turns to Integrate's AI platform to track programs, costs and schedules across its portfolio.

The Space Force has hired Seattle-based Integrate to run an AI-powered project management platform across its acquisition portfolio, part of a push to keep sprawling national security programs on schedule and on budget.

The Space Systems Integration Office awarded the multi-million-dollar contract, expanding a relationship that began last year with a $25M Integrate deal to support launch operations for the service’s Mission Manifest Office. The software is already live inside seven of the service’s nine new Portfolio Acquisition Executives, and the final two are slated to come online soon.

The tool tracks schedules, resources, risks and dependencies across organizations and security classifications, giving leaders real-time visibility into programs such as the Space Data Network and the Space-Based Airborne Moving Target Indicator constellation. Integrate says its software replaces a workflow built on email attachments, static charts and Microsoft Project, which CEO John Conafay noted was released the same year as Tetris.

The contract lands as the Space Force seeks a $71.3B budget request, what Aerospace Corp. calls the largest percentage increase for any military branch since 1952. Helen Ying, the service’s system of systems engineering lead, said the platform strengthens the ability to visualize program details and track broader objectives.

Integrate framed the win as part of the Space Force’s effort to modernize how it oversees the national security space enterprise, which it described as the service’s central nervous system for acquisition.
