The FBI, the National Counterintelligence and Security Center (NCSC), and the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI) published a joint advisory warning that foreign intelligence entities are escalating cyberattacks against US-based space companies.
The advisory warns that adversaries view the commercial space sector as both a threat and an opportunity. “They see US space-related innovation and assets as potential threats as well as valuable opportunities to acquire vital technologies and expertise,” the agencies stated.
Foreign intelligence operations are using cyberattacks, strategic investments, joint ventures, and supply chain targeting to gain access to the US space industry. The advisory notes that attempted breaches have focused on stealing proprietary data, collecting information from satellites, and disrupting satellite communications.
The warning comes amid a sharp rise in space-related cyber incidents. The Space Information Sharing and Analysis Center previously reported a 118% surge in incidents in 2025. In April, the Cyberspace Solarium Commission urged the White House to designate space as a critical infrastructure sector.
The global space economy is projected to exceed $1 trillion within seven years, with the US and China leading investment. The agencies urged companies to implement insider threat programs, monitor for anomalous activity, and report suspicious inquiries to the FBI.
