The Interoperability Challenge

Europe’s defense posture depends on seamless coordination across 32 NATO member states and partners, yet the simulation and experimentation layer remains fragmented. Legacy tools, disparate data sets, and siloed test environments prevent forces from aligning tactics, communications, and command structures before deployment. ACES provides a single, integrated modeling and simulation platform that unifies assets, data, and scenarios across air, land, sea, cyber, and space domains. Its open architecture enables any platform to “plug and play” within the virtual battlespace, supporting dynamic federation where nations contribute live or synthetic models in real time. Scenario authoring tools allow multinational staff to co-create campaign-level exercises in a common workspace, while rapid rerun capability evaluates adjustments to force composition or rules of engagement within minutes.

Enhancing Readiness and Decision-Making

The platform excels at “what-if” analyses, allowing emerging technologies such as hypersonic weapons, autonomous swarms, and directed energy systems to be inserted virtually alongside legacy platforms. Commanders gain a real-time digital twin of the battlespace, overlaying live sensor data with simulated adversary actions.
